Badajoz is growing as a tourist city, and the motorhome sector has a very special place in our local geography.
At the foot of the Hornabeque of the Puente de Palmas (at Travesía de San Vicente Viejo Nº2) a Specific Parking Area for Motorhomes has been established with many advantages.
The area is located on the right bank of the Guadiana River as it passes through Badajoz, in a newly renovated park called “Parque del Guadiana,” with large green spaces, surrounded by a variety of services such as playgrounds, sports courts, magnificent areas for bike rides, running, or simply enjoying the monumental views of the 12th-century Alcazaba, the 16th-century Puente de Palmas, and the wildlife of the Guadiana River, as it is a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) that can be easily observed.
It is a free area with nine parking spaces (with prospects for expansion), grey and black water disposal, a tap with running water, and is monitored by the Parque del Guadiana.
Its location, 500 meters on foot from the Historic Center across the bridge, is unbeatable. It is also adjacent to the hospitality kiosk “El Muelle del Guadiana” and other nearby restaurants, as well as the only casino in Extremadura; taxi and urban bus stops (line 18) that connect with Elvas Avenue, where services such as the Infanta Cristina Hospital, the University of Extremadura, large surface stores, shopping centers, the Badajoz Fair (IFEBA), water park, and fairgrounds are located. All this, in addition to the fact that on the other side of the Guadiana is the center of Badajoz with its Old Town and a multitude of leisure and gastronomic services, open shopping centers like Menacho, health clinics, and an overall pleasant and accessible city.
The Historical and Cultural Heritage of Badajoz is defined by its fortifications: Alcazaba (12th century) and Abaluartada Wall (17th-19th centuries) with different forts, ravelins, and other fortified elements like the hornabeque next to the motorhome parking area. Additionally, in Badajoz, you can enjoy its original squares (Plaza Alta or Plaza de la Soledad); 19th-century parks and gardens (Castelar); and, of course, its museums, churches, and the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Juan Bautista.
Its proximity to Portugal and the sister city Elvas (a World Heritage site for its fortifications), just 10 minutes away by highway, are strong points that complement and make a visit to Badajoz a must.
Being perfectly connected to 4 World Heritage sites, using Badajoz as a base, is another strong point:
- Elvas: 20 km. 10 minutes.
- Évora: 90 km. 1 hour.
- Mérida: 60 km. 40 minutes.
- Cáceres: 92 km. 1 hour.
On the other hand, Badajoz offers many more reasons to visit: It is the commercial reference city within a 200 km radius, and its gastronomy is characterized by products from the Extremadura dehesa, such as lamb and Iberian pork.
We invite all motorhome enthusiasts to choose Badajoz and enjoy it.
