It is common for brotherhoods, within the celebrations they hold throughout the year, to set up ephemeral altars. Their purpose is varied: on one hand, they aim to exalt the brotherhood’s titular image; on the other hand, they have a clearly aesthetic purpose, following the Baroque Counter-Reformation perspective of bringing people closer to God through beauty. The catechetical and artistic purposes blend in a clear symbiosis, making these altars unique pieces.
